Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Decumbent to erect annual or perennial, herb, 0.05-0.35 m high, leaves linear to ovate; sepals narrowly oblong, 2-3 mm long; indusium 0.8-1 mm long. Fl. yellow, Aug to Dec or Jan to Feb or Apr. Grey or black sand, sandy clay. Seasonally-wet sites, swamps, plains, valleys, ridges.

Scientific Description

Stems unribbed. Leaves flat, 20-60 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, Indumentum absent (leaves glabrous); margins entire or toothed. Bracteoles absent. Pedicel pedicellate, Pedicel length the pedicels 12-25 mm long, Indumentum present, Hair type with absent hairs. Calyx lobes present, Calyx length 1.2 mm long, hairy, with sparse, simple hairs. Corolla yellow, 6.5-12 mm long, auriculate, not spurred, hairy on the outside, with sparse, simple hairs, glabrous on the inside; central lobes 2-4 mm long, with wings; outer lobes 3.5-7 mm long, wing present on both sides and clearly unequal, 0.5-1.5 mm wide on the narrower side, 0.7-2 mm wide on the broader side. Anthers free. Ovary inferior, not gibbose; style 3-5.5 mm long, hairy; indusium single, hairy; ovules more than two. Flowers in January, February, March, April, August, September, October, November and December. Occurs in the Geraldton Sandplains (GS), Swan Coastal Plain (SWA), Avon Wheatbelt (AW), Jarrah Forest (JF), Mallee (MAL), Warren (WAR) and Esperance Plains (ESP) IBRA Region(s), of the South West (SW) Botanical Province.
