Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

The notice period started at 9:45 am on Friday, 12 December 2025 +08:00 and will end at 12:00 pm on Monday, 2 March 2026 +08:00.

Diffuse, ascending shrub, 0.15-1(-1.6) m high, with distinctive large corolla wings. Fl. blue, Jul to Dec. Lateritic or granitic soils. Hills, outcrops, flats.

Scientific Description

Stems ribbed. Leaves flat, 2.5-9 mm long, 0.4-1 mm wide, Indumentum absent (leaves glabrous); margins entire. Bracteoles present, 7-10 mm long, glabrous. Pedicel pedicellate, Pedicel length the pedicels 7-10 mm long, glabrous. Calyx lobes present, Calyx length 4.5-5 mm long, glabrous. Corolla blue, 12-25 mm long, without auricles, not spurred, glabrous on the outside, hairy on the inside, with wings, 1.6-8 mm wide, wings present on both sides, 1.5-4.5 mm wide on the narrower side. Anthers free. Ovary inferior, not gibbose; style 6-7 mm long, hairy; indusium single, hairy; ovules more than two. Flowers in August, September and October. Occurs in the Coolgardie (COO), Swan Coastal Plain (SWA), Avon Wheatbelt (AW), Jarrah Forest (JF), Mallee (MAL), Warren (WAR) and Esperance Plains (ESP) IBRA Region(s), of the Eremaean (E) and South West (SW) Botanical Province.
