Spreading or almost prostrate, tufted annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), c. 0.05 m high, spikelets in dense head surrounded by 3 or more long involucral bracts; stamens 1-2. Fl. green-brown, Jul to Aug. Red sandy loam, silt. Along watercourses, claypans.
