Tufted annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.05-0.7(-1) m high, inflorescence of 3-many obtuse spikelets, axis slightly winged; glumes 1-1.5 mm long; stamens 1 or 2. Fl. brown-green, Feb to Aug. Clay, basalt, alluvium, sand. Along watercourses, swamps, damp habitats.
