Tufted annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.1-0.7 m high, perianth of 3 bristles and 3 clawed scales; scales 3-veined but otherwise unthickened. Fl. green/brown, Mar to Aug. Clay, sand, red loam, mud. Swamps, pools, claypans, along watercourses, seepage areas.
