Slender tufted annual, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.01-0.2 m high, glumes (1.2-)1.4-2 mm long; stamens 1(-2); style branches 3; nut with abaxial angle acute. Fl. green-brown, Apr or Jul to Nov. Black, grey or red clayey sand, loam, sandy clay, sometimes saline. Granite outcrops, creeks, claypans, winter-wet depressions.
