Rhizomatous, tufted perennial, grass-like or herb (sedge), 0.3-1.5 m high, clumps to 0.8 m wide. Fl. brown-black, Apr to May. White, yellow, grey-brown or peaty sand, sandy clay, gravelly laterite.
