Eriochilus dilatatus subsp. multiflorus (Lindl.) Hopper & A.P.Br.
Eriochilus dilatatus subsp. multiflorus is commonly known as the White Bunny Orchid. This delicate slender herb, with distinctive erect scapes of up to 20 closely packed, white-cream flowers that feature a greenish to cream-coloured labellum with red spots, is one of the first orchids to flower in the year, beginning in early April. The subspecies epithet multiflorus means many flowered.
White Bunny Orchids can be found in the jarrah forest from north of Perth to Albany, and in coastal banksia woodlands. In some areas they co-occur with the Hare Orchid, Leporella fimbriata, which is also an early flowering species. ‘Tis the season to hop to it and be one of the first to catch these beauties!
