Codonocarpus cotinifolius (Desf.) F.Muell.

Native Poplar (Codonocarpus cotinifolius) is a slender pyramidal shrub or tree usually 2–4 m high, but reportedly up to 10 m tall. The inflorescences are unisexual or have both male and female racemes, with flowering occurring from April to October.
The species is widespread in the dry regions of Australia, where it grows in sand, loam, gravel or sometimes in quartzite or limestone, on plains and dunes. It is common after fire and lives for 5–10 years.
Codonocarpus is from the Greek ‘kodon’ meaning a crier's bell and ‘karpos’ meaning a fruit, alluding to the shape of the fruit. Cotinifolius means to have leaves like the genus Cotinus (Smokebush).
