The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system and census were set to read-only mode on 1 October 2025. Taxonomic updates published since this time are not being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or Western Australia’s taxonomic names census (Nomos). Conservation listings displayed on Florabase may also be out of date. Please refer to DBCA’s Threatened species and communities webpage for the most recent Threatened and Priority Flora List, noting that recent taxonomic updates are similarly not included. Our database migration is moving to a staging phase. We thank you for your patience as we ensure the integrity of our biodiversity data, develop new workflows, and train staff to use the new systems. Current Alien Species
The number of currently accepted names at species rank that are alien to Western Australia.
Current Alien Taxa
The number of currently accepted alien taxa at species rank and below.
Current Names
The number of names in use in WA (includes the species-level name when infraspecific names exist).
Current Native Species
The number of currently accepted names at species rank that are native to Western Australia.
Current Native Taxa
The number of currently accepted native taxa at species rank and below.
Current Species
The number of currently accepted names at species rank. Infraspecific names are excluded.
Current Taxa
The number of currently accepted taxa at species rank and below (excludes the species-level name when infraspecies taxa exist).
Manuscript Names
The number of proposed but unpublished names.
Named Hybrids
The number of current names recorded for WA denoting taxa that are named hybrids.
Non-current Names
The number of names no longer in use in WA (including synonymous, excluded and misapplied names).
Phrase Names
The number of assigned but unpublished names.
Published Alien Species
The number of formally published names at species rank that occur in Western Australia but are not native.
Published Native Species
The number of formally published names at species rank that are native to Western Australia.
Published Species
The number of formally published names at species rank.
Species
A name at the rank of species.
Species with Infraspecies
The number of species with current taxa at a lower rank (subspecies, varieties and forms).
Taxon (plural: Taxa)
Commonly refers to a published name at any rank, but these statistics only refer to taxa at or below species rank.
Total Names
The total number of plant, alga, fungus, lichen, bryophyte and protist names in the dataset.
Unnamed Hybrids
The number of current names recorded for WA denoting taxa that are hybrid formulae.
