Service Notice

The Western Australian Herbarium’s collections management system, WAHerb, and DBCA’s flora taxonomic names application, WACensus, have been set to read-only mode since 1 October 2025. Recent taxonomic changes are not currently being reflected in Florabase, herbarium collections, or the census. Due to the rapidly approaching holiday season and associated agency and facility soft closures, along with the substantial work involved in data mapping, cleaning, and verification, the migration to the new collection management software is not expected to occur before 1 March 2026, when a further update will be provided. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.

The notice period started at 9:45 am on Friday, 12 December 2025 +08:00 and will end at 12:00 pm on Monday, 2 March 2026 +08:00.

The number of currently accepted names at species rank that are native to Western Australia.
Current Native Taxa
The number of currently accepted native taxa at species rank and below.
Current Species
The number of currently accepted names at species rank.
Current Taxa
The number of currently accepted taxa at species rank and below.
Manuscript Names
The number of proposed but unpublished names.
Named Hybrids
The number of current names that are formally named hybrids.
Non-current Names
The number of names no longer in use in WA (including synonymous, excluded and misapplied names).
Phrase Names
The number of assigned but unpublished names.
Published Alien Species
The number of formally published names at species rank that occur in Western Australia but are not native.
Published Native Species
The number of formally published names at species rank that are native to Western Australia.
Published Species
The number of formally published names at species rank.

A name at the rank of species.
Species with Infraspecies
The number of species with current taxa at subspecies, variety and forma ranks.
Taxon (plural: Taxa)
Commonly refers to a published name at any rank, but these statistics only refer to taxa at or below species rank.
Total Names
Number of plant, alga, fungus, lichen, bryophyte and protist names in the database.
Un-named Hybrids
The number of current names that are informally named hybrids.
